New York Sports Information
New York Sports TipsWatching men run back and forth, throwing or kicking balls, seemed very tame by comparison. Maybe it was being in a stadium filled with thousands of fans who really did care about the outcome of the game. You could really feel the suspense and tension, and it was hard not to get drawn into it. They seemed really boring to me. There was something about actually being there that made it all worthwhile. When I was going there, I expected to not like it at all. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. I had never enjoyed sports events on TV. If I wanted to see action, I could watch a martial arts movie or something like that. Instead, we would play catch, tag, kick the can, or one of many other similar games. They have built in basketball hoops, soccer nets, and football goals, all attached to a layer of ugly blacktop. I suppose that the term backyard sports meant something a little bit different back then than it does today. Back then, however, things were a lot less organized. We did not have the money to get serious about a backyard sport. Living in the suburbs, I see a lot of people with big, expensive, backyard sports centers. New York Sports AdviceBasically, in its most basic form, it is about psyching out your opponents while building yourself up. Sports psychology used to be called gamesmanship. Although there are games that are a tossup until the very last moment, many games are decided within the first few minutes of play. Sports psychologists talk about the importance of being in the zone and of creating an intimidating presence on the field. No one really talked about applied sport psychology until recently, but it has been known in one form or another for almost as long as people have played professional sports. Once you have the momentum, as long as you can stay with it you can usually win. The funny thing is that the trend is even spreading to New York. I'm not a very vain person, but I didn't realize how much I would miss the dark, well tailored trench coats until I started to see them replaced by warm-up jackets! I can understand when kids pick up on the trend – they don't know better – but even adults are starting to dress in sports clothing. New York Sports Facts
